Battle of the Belt was developed to reduce the number of motor-vehicle-related injuries and fatalities among Missouri high school students by increasing seat belt usage. The program was created for students that want to make a difference in the lives of of those they care about. It's also a great way for teens to have friendly rivalries with neighboring high schools while increasing seat belt usage. Not only does the competition increase safety belt awareness, but students also have the opportunity to win cash and prizes in the process.
The program is a six-week-long program, where schools conduct observational safety belt surveys before and after an educational campaign at the school. Various supplies and resources are made available to participating schools. Awards will be presented to winning schools. Battle of the Belt is an annual program.
