MoDOT Partners with Missouri Mavericks, Celebrates 5 Years of Hockey in KC
MoDOT has partnered with the flagship Central Hockey League team since it came to the area five years ago. In June the team celebrated their anniversary with a new logo and the Arrive Alive message on the back of every tee shirt.

MoDOT Team Takes Safety Message to Teens

Teens taking driver’s education courses this summer are hearing strong safety messages from MoDOT before they hone their skills behind the wheel.

Several engineers are presenting information about roundabouts and traffic safety to 20 classes again this summer. This year marks the 9th year for the roundabouts program.

The roundabouts presentation helps young drivers understand the rules at the circular intersections and why they will encounter more of them throughout their lifetime.

Traffic safety presentations include repeated emphasis on buckling up, everyone, every time, plus the dangers of distracted driving – particularly cell phones and texting. While the team relies on several videos to quickly cover topics, the presentations are woven with personal experiences and observations, the kind of perspective that connects with young teens.

Battle of the Belt was developed to reduce the number of motor-vehicle-related injuries and fatalities among Missouri high school students by increasing seat belt usage. The program was created for students that want to make a difference in the lives of of those they care about. It's also a great way for teens to have friendly rivalries with neighboring high schools while increasing seat belt usage. Not only does the competition increase safety belt awareness, but students also have the opportunity to win cash and prizes in the process.

The program is six weeks long, and schools conduct observational safety belt surveys before and after an educational campaign at the school. Various supplies and resources are made available to participating schools. Awards will be presented to winning schools.  Battle of the Belt is an annual program.
