Buckle Up Phone Down

The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety and the Missouri Department of Transportation are challenging state agencies and Missouri businesses to join the Buckle Up Phone Down movement.

MoDOT is multicultural agency and we want to encourage everyone to Buckle Up and put the Phone Down while driving; especially during the holidays. So, we've put together a PSA in different languages, which can be viewed here or downloaded at the bottom of the page under Ready to Use Marketing Information.

The challenge is simple: when you get into any vehicle, buckle up your safety belt. If you are a driver, put the cellphone down. Turn it off if you have to. Every trip, every time!

In 2016, 947 people were killed in Missouri traffic crashes - 688 were vehicle drivers and passengers, with 62 percent being unbuckled.

Right now, Missouri has a “no texting” law for drivers age 21 years and under. But we are challenging all drivers to honor that ban no matter what their age. Reported crashes involving cell phones in Missouri rose 11 percent in 2016. When a driver is texting and driving they are 23 times more likely to be in a critical incident. (source: VA Tech)

With stats like that it’s time for businesses, communities, government agencies and individuals to accept the challenge.
